Brains SA Gold

Always a classic (as my mate Andy is always telling me) – but got to admit, its a good beer.

Quite malty, which I like, and not too hoppy. Although I am fond of hops, but it seems a bit of a (not session) but normal “i fancy a pint, pint”

Its nothing massive, but its in Aldi for £1.25 a bottle, and at that price, its an absolute steal. 2015-10-16 16.34.14

Co-op gold miner

Was recommended to me by a colleague. It was £1.69 in Witney co-op so thought I’d give it a try.

The label and bottle looks very sophisticated. Opened and poured nicely. Golden in colour and very slight head.

First taste, blurgh! Taste like burnt ashtray. Horrid. Second mouthful, a bit like burnt treacle. Since then, tastes okay. The ashtray taste has gone thank god. But there is a very bitter burnt sweetness. Like caramelised sugar.

I reckon after a pint it would be lovely but it’s tough to get past the first ‘kick’.

Think there’s some lemon in there. Actually, it’s evolving into a bit drop. Think I should drink another just make sure. Unfortunately I don’t have one.
